Why do we need to know more about agriculture?
Consumers typically have minimal knowledge of the origination
and path that their food supply and all agriculture travels to
reach a final destination of nourishment on a physical, emotional
and/or psychological plane.
Have you ever thought how much the average consumer spends on
agricultural products during a lifetime? Food, clothing, "greenery",
and the multitude of products purchased to sustain and improve our
lives are all agricultural products. We need to be informed consumers.
New York is a major agricultural producer, and we must fill the
educational void so that our citizens know and understand the system
that sustains them. In this age of technology and rapid information
flow, we must not allow others to feed us misinformation or open
ourselves to a future we may not understand or control.
Knowledge of agriculture and all it encompasses will create a
stronger infrastructure that will be an enabling force for ALL.
